ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Cleveland “Pancake” Thomas said leaving Lobo basketball was a tough choice and disappointing. Thomas had hoped to spend his entire career in Lobos cherry and silver. He said loyalty is important to him. The Lobos announced the release of the sophomore guard Wednesday. Thomas had a couple of meetings with head coach Craig Neal before reaching a final decision. Thomas said he will miss Lobo fans. They exceeded his expectations. Thomas averaged 3.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 15.2 minutes of action per game this past season. ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – If he wins he will get another title shot that slipped his grasp two fights ago. New Mexico boxer Tony Valdez is the headliner on a fight card scheduled for Buffalo Thunder May 10. Valdez currently holds a record of eight wins with four losses. Seven of his eight victories are by knockout. Up and coming fighter Angelo Leo is on the undercard. Leo made a name for himself as an amatuer having local and regional success with Silver Gloves boxing.
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Actor and director Mel Gibson is making a movie in New Mexico and they’re looking for extras. The movie is called Blood Father. It’ll feature Gibson as an ex-con who comes to rescue his daughter who’s wanted by drug dealers. The movie will start shooting in Albuquerque in mid May. They’re looking for extras to play bikers and other parts. For more information about the casting call click here.
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque is quite a hot spot for java junkies. Men’s Health Magazine ranks the Duke City as the fifth coffee-crazed city in the U.S. Portland Maine takes the top spot. We even beat out the home of Starbucks which is Seattle Oregon. The study looked at the percentage of households that own coffeemakers and the number of coffee shops per capita.
